Happy Birthday to Enes.
You are 21 now. You can buy alcohol!
Yeah the best part of this day is Enes birthday i guess.
But i had also other events that weren't quite nice.
I had a meeting with one of the korean girls and i talked a lot to them.
Also i visit the lecture of the astronaut. It was so exciting!

At night, we surprise Enes because we made a party for him at the roof on Prassel (my dorm)!
Everyone had fun, there was a big chocolate cake and overall it was a very nice night.

Mittwoch, 21. September 2016

We had no program on Wednesday. Just class and Fistu seminar. However i had a event i was invited to it. Not me but also long (another fulbright) .

We had a meeting with the Vietnamese Student Association. So we went there at 5.30.
When i enter the room where it would be, i had thoughts like:
Strange people, small group, not everyone in this group was actually Vietnamese.
But we decided to stay. Just to have a look on it.
We introduce our-self to the president and the employer (you know what i mean) and then they started to show us a show power point presentation.

After that we had some games. Oh wait, i forgot the food. We also had food there (finally something different to the dining hall). Then the games. And after 1 hours, it was over. Too fast i guess, but should i do. We enjoined it.

At the same day on dinner, i also met two Korean girls. It was a pleasure to talk to this girls.
I love talking to others. You can learn so much!

This day (Tuesday) was very crammed with programs.
We had a Fistu seminar at 8.30 (so early) . Then our class.
Between my Art class and my Improvisation class, i had to go to a lecture about "Blacklivesmatters".
It was hard to listen to it, i was kind of tired.
Still the lecture was interesting. Especially the statistics and the differences between black and white people was quite fascinating. You could see in only one pictures the injustice that happens in the United States. There are so many problems they have to face with.

In the evening, we also had a lecture. This lecture was about ISIS and European Right-Wing Propaganda. This lecture was also interesting to watch but had some points that i didn't agree with.
It was a bit partial i guess because they only described the problems without really asking the victims about their thoughts.

I can't remember the night. Maybe we played werewolves, maybe i hang out with my roommates.
I don't know. But i can imagine that it was good.
The next week began. Can't image how fast one week pass.
But happens i guess. On this Monday there was no program except a dinner with Pakistani, Turkish food at the fiesta room.
So i started my day pretty normal with my class. I had breakfast, lunch and also dinner before the dinner with Fistu (i know i am greedy but when you can go to Dining Hall whenever you want without paying anything, you would be greedy too :P )

I can't remember what i did between dinner and class. Maybe went to the gym or went to the swimming pool. (The swimming pool is very cool!)
Nonetheless at the evening was the Fistu dinner with this Pakistani, Turkish food.
Many roommates of the Fulbright people and Interns plus Profs were there.
Unfortunately both roommates (Starjjil and Tyler) had no time :(

However i had a good time there with also playing piano there..

Wow. It is Sunday. How fast time flies.
Only 2 weeks left. :(
Ok, i will cry later.

Well my Sunday starts with the Cultural Arts Tour.
We had a ride with the interns and also Dr. Noor to the westside of San Antonio.
We had a tour guide who showed us the murals at these places.
But it was damn hot. It was hard to listen to the guide because you were so exhausting at staying in the sun. Nevertheless it was great experience.

Our first mural we watched

After the tour and after arriving back to Trinity, Enes and me decided to go to the Japanese garden that is 15 minutes walk from here. We asked many people where the Japanese garden but we wonder that many people didn't know where it was. (we conclude that many Americans only stay on campus or didn't go out that much)

The Japanese garden is so pretty and beautiful and amazing and [you can put words in it].
Although it was small it was very cool to be there. And although it doesn't look like a typical Japanese garden, we had a lot of fun there.
So everyone who read this. You should go in there! (it's free ;) )

After Japanese garden, we decided to go to the Pearl. The way on the map didn't look that far away.
But well... it was longer then we thought. So we walked about 1.30 hour to get to the pearl, walking across the darkest roads and darkest places (because it was already 7 o'clock)
But we did it. And we get disappointed.

There were no people. All shops were closed. We were too late..

After just walking a bit around the Pearl, we wanted to go to downtown.
From Pearl to Downtown is also a 1 hour way but that didn't affect us on walking straight there.

Pearl

Texas!!
Our plan on Saturday was to go to the Institute of Texan Culture. At 9 o'clock we met at the CSI Building (Center for the Sciences and Innovation).
We had two vans who were driven by the interns.
The Institute of Texan Culture was big and with many things.

Does it look authentic?

You can learn a lot there. About native Americans, Texan people and other stuff. Pretty interesting. We stayed there for like 2-3 hours. Then we could go to the tower of San Antonio or we could explore the surroundings. I decided to go on the tower. With 11 Dollars (or something like that) not that cheap, but the view was amazing.
It was windy up there but you could see the whole town. What a view!

Windy

After that me and some others guys decided to stay a bit in San Antonio (i mean since i am here..)
We walked along the river walk. At 4 pm. we split. Only Enes and me stayed in San Antonio because we wanted to explore more of the city while the others wanted to go back.
So they went away with uber (you guys miss something!)

Baktosch and me

San Antonio at night

We stayed in San Antonio Downtown until night. We saw much and our highlight was the second-hand shop, the market square and the Tobin center (actually the center is not that amazing because it was a center for concerts but we stayed on the stairs and talked much about everything). We really enjoined our time there.. Like walking around, talking and get to know each other.

At midnight, we came back at home.
What a good day!
My friday starts pretty normal. At first i had breakfast before class. Then i joined my class "play and structure". So my schedule for the weeks looks like: Monday,Wednesday, Friday "Play and Structure" theatre. Tuesday and Thursday i have "Improvisation" theatre and "Across the border" art.
Disney <3
So only 3 classes. Not that much and i am very happy that i don't have that much homework like other guys of my group ;)

In the afternoon, some fulbright students (i guess it was mariama, olga, johaina and karen) wanted to go to northstar mall. So i joined them and we took the uber car to the mall.
(uber is a like a taxi organisation but with private drivers, so it's much cheaper)
The Northstar mall was not that big but also not that small. It was ok i guess. There have many shops but the best is that they have a disney store! Really love disney.
Northstar Mall
So i spend my money only in this shop. (50 Dollars or more for buying stuffed animals for friends and me). Never bought so much. I am not sure if i am happy or not xD

After the northstart mall and after coming back to Trinity again, we started to go to mission San jose because there was a light festival.
Mission San Jose
There was not that much but a mission(like a church) but when the night started they begin to project light on the wall of the mission. It looked pretty awesome and very beautiful. But it was a bit short in my opinion.

We did some nice pictures

PS:
I saw my first firefly in my life. I am very happy to be here!

So my 4-day was pretty good.
For the first time, i had theatre class "improvisation". It was really fun and i enjoyed my time being there. We played games you would never expected. In the viewpoint of a german it was very strange to see but it was also very worthwhile.
I'm looking forward to have great time.

A tower from San Antonio (actually i don't know which tower it is)

don't ask me, you can see it by yourself
Some hours later, our group had a library tour with a tour guide. He showed us every corner of the library but it didn't take much time. With finished the tour after 20-30 min.
But i was interesting so see the library in america because in my opinion, the library in america (Trinity) looks much more comfortable than the german library. (just my opinion)

In the afternoon, we went to San Antonio to the  Western Art Museum.
The Museum itself isn't that big still they got many things to watch at.
When we finished the museum, we had a boat trip along the riverwalk. The San Antonio River Walk is a network of walkways along the banks of the San Antonio River, one story beneath the streets of Downtown San Antonio. It was beautiful to see all the restaurants, bars, skyscrapers and other things. I would recommend it! When you are in San Antonio, do a riverwalk tour!

Baktosch, Enes, Minh

In the evening, our Fulbright group went to a mexican restaurant. The food was good and i enjoyed the time talking to the people. I sat at one table with Enes, Alexandr, Iris (one intern), Dr. Noor, and a prof (i forgot his name, i'm sorry :( )
We talked about politics, differences between Germany and America, travelling and so many other topics. I was upset when everybody had to leave because the conversations were pretty nice.
All good things must come to an end...

3-Day

Enes (Fulbright) and me
Well, on the third day, our classes began. My first and last class for the day was theatre "Play and Structure". It was a very small room with only 9 people in it. Others classes are much bigger with an average of 20 people. But well happens.
The Professor Stacy Connelly was very kind and nice. She is a really friendly person who lived for one year in Germany, Berlin. It's very cool to meet people who already visited Germany.

On my way to the dining hall
After the class and the lunch we had our first fistu seminar where we got an introduction of the story texas. Pretty interesting. Then at 19.30 all fulbright students and Jeff (one of the interns) gathered in a room (i forgot where it was) to watch the movie "Lone Star".
At this day i was so tired because i had to wake up early (i talked to my roommates deep into the night). Therefore i didn't watch the whole movie, sometimes i fall asleep.
Relaxing a bit
But it was a very long and exhausting movie and everyone was happy when it was over.

2-Day

So the night was pretty cool.
I met my roommates and they are very funny.
I live in a small room with two roommates called Tyler and Starjjil.
We started to play football at night and also played tablet tennis in that night.
Was pretty cool and funny night.

At 6 AM i woke up. It was very strange because i usually wake up very late.
Maybe because of jet lag i guess.
Well, so laid in my bed for 1 hour and just chilled.
I am a Trinity student!

At 8 AM there was meeting with Dr. Noor and other people. They introduced us to different topics and later we visited the office because we get our special "Tiger Card".
I feel like i am very special haha.

Then we went to walmarkt and had a "shopping tour"  and after that we get our Dinner in the Dining Hall. I am very impressed of the dining hall.
We had a campus tour at this day
It is so big and there is so much food. I barely can choose something because there was so assortment. Never seen so much food in one canteen.

The canteen (a small part of it)
Everything is bigger in america!

Donnerstag, 8. September 2016

Let's start at the beginning.
We are a group of 15 people (2 are missing in the photo) and everyone was motivated in exploring america and visiting the Trinity University.

So we will start our travel in Frankfurt, one of the biggest airport in Europe.
After 11 Hours flight, we landed in Houston. From Houston we have to take the next flight to San Antonio.
But then the first problems started.

Arriving in Houston

At the security check, two guys of us were taken out. So we had to wait 2 hours until the security let them free. But that was not the only problem on this day.
The two guys (Enes and Ahmet) were searching for the luggage but didn't find it. So they ask us (Baktosch, Alexander and me) to help them. First thing that come to our mind was the baggage claim. So we went to the baggage claim. At the baggage claim, we found out that the baggage was already in the plane. (Wow)
Therefore we wanted to go back then.

But the surprising thing is: We had to go through the security again. And we didn't knew that.

Waiting in Houston (Because Enes and Ahmet didn't pass the security check)

The Security didn't let me pass through. I didn't have something with me, i left all my things (like ID or Ticket) at the gate. Bad situation i guess. No mobile phone to contact anyone. No number to contact. I was helpless.
Fortunately, Backtosch and Alexander had an ID. They
went through the security and Backtosch and Nadin (also a fulbright student) came with my baggage and my ID. Thanks god. It took a lot of time and i was already panicked . Thinking about how to fly to San Antonio without the others. Or staying in Houston.

So we (Backtosch,Nadin and me) missed our flight to San Antonio. Boarding was at 6.30 but i was finishing the security at 6.40. The staff at the airport had to change our flight and rebook us.
I am happy that we didn't have to pay any extra charges.
Anyway after tacking the next plane to San Antonio, we finally arrived the Trinity University after being 24 hours awake.
That was a trip.

Not bad for the first day.
